Mungu akamwambia Yakobo, Ondoka, panda uende Betheli, ukakae huko; ukamfanyie Mungu madhabahu huko; yeye aliyekutokea ulipomkimbia Esau, ndugu yako.
Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel, and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

Yakobo akawaambia watu wa nyumbani mwake, na wote waliokuwa pamoja naye, Ondoeni miungu migeni iliyoko kwenu, mjisafishe mkabadili nguo zenu.
So Jacob told his household and all who were with him, “Get rid of the foreign gods that are among you. Purify yourselves and change your garments.

Tuondoke, tupande kwenda Betheli, nami nitamfanyia Mungu madhabahu huko; yeye aliyenisikia siku ya shida yangu, akawa pamoja nami katika njia yote niliyoiendea.
Then let us arise and go to Bethel. I will build an altar there to God, who answered me in my day of distress. He has been with me wherever I have gone.”

Nao wakampa Yakobo miungu migeni yote iliyokuwa mikononi mwao, na pete zilizokuwa masikioni mwao, naye Yakobo akazificha chini ya mwaloni ulioko Shekemu.
So they gave Jacob all their foreign gods and all their earrings, and Jacob buried them under the oak near Shechem.

Wakashika njia, hofu ya Mungu ikaishika miji iliyowazunguka, wala hawakuwafuata wana wa Yakobo.
As they set out, a terror from God fell over the surrounding cities, so that they did not pursue Jacob’s sons.

Basi Yakobo akafika Luzu, ulio katika nchi ya Kanaani, ndio Betheli, yeye na watu wote waliokuwa pamoja naye.
So Jacob and everyone with him arrived in Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.

Akajenga huko madhabahu, akapaita mahali pale, El-Betheli; kwa sababu huko Mungu alimtokea, hapo alipomkimbia ndugu yake.
There Jacob built an altar, and he called that place El-bethel, because it was there that God had revealed Himself to Jacob as he fled from his brother.

Akafa Debora mlezi wa Rebeka, akazikwa chini ya Betheli, chini ya mwaloni; na jina lake likaitwa Alon-bakuthi.
Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died and was buried under the oak below Bethel. So Jacob named it Allon-bacuth.

Mungu akamtokea Yakobo tena, aliporudi kutoka Padan-aramu akambariki.
After Jacob had returned from Paddan-aram, God appeared to him again and blessed him.

Mungu akamwambia, Jina lako ni Yakobo; hutaitwa tena Yakobo, lakini Israeli litakuwa jina lako. Akamwita jina lake, Israeli.
And God said to him, “Though your name is Jacob, you will no longer be called Jacob. Instead, your name will be Israel.” So God named him Israel.

Mungu akamwambia, Mimi ni Mungu Mwenyezi, uzidi ukaongezeke. Taifa na kundi la mataifa watatoka kwako, na wafalme watatoka viunoni mwako.
And God told him, “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation—even a company of nations—shall come from you, and kings shall descend from you.

Na nchi hii niliyowapa Ibrahimu na Isaka nitakupa wewe, na uzao wako baada yako nitawapa nchi hiyo.
The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.”

Mungu akakwea juu kutoka kwake mahali hapo aliposema naye.
Then God went up from the place where He had spoken with him.
14
Yakobo akasimamisha nguzo mahali aliposema naye, nguzo ya mawe, akamimina juu yake sadaka ya kinywaji, akamimina mafuta juu yake.
So Jacob set up a pillar in the place where God had spoken with him—a stone marker—and he poured out a drink offering on it and anointed it with oil.

Yakobo akapaita mahali pale, Mungu aliposema naye, Betheli.
Jacob called the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.
16
Wakasafiri kutoka Betheli, hata ukabaki mwendo wa kitambo tu kufika Efrathi, Raheli akashikwa na utungu wa kuzaa, na utungu wake ulikuwa mzito.
Later, they set out from Bethel, and while they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth, and her labor was difficult.

Ikawa alipokuwa anashikwa sana na utungu, mzalisha akamwambia, Usiogope, maana sasa utamzaa mwanamume mwingine.
During her severe labor, the midwife said to her, “Do not be afraid, for you are having another son.”

Ikawa hapo katika kutoa roho yake, maana alikufa, akamwita jina lake Benoni, lakini babaye alimwita Benyamini.
And with her last breath—for she was dying—she named him Ben-oni. But his father called him Benjamin.

Akafa Raheli, akazikwa katika njia ya Efrathi, ndio Bethlehemu.
So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).
20
Yakobo akasimamisha nguzo juu ya kaburi lake, ndiyo nguzo ya kaburi la Raheli hata leo.
Jacob set up a pillar on her grave; it marks Rachel’s tomb to this day.
21
Kisha akasafiri Israeli akapiga hema yake upande wa pili wa mnara wa Ederi.
Israel again set out and pitched his tent beyond the Tower of Eder.
22
Ikawa Israeli alipokuwa akikaa katika nchi ile, Reubeni akaenda akalala na Bilha, suria wa babaye; Israeli akasikia habari. Basi hao wana wa Yakobo walikuwa kumi na wawili.
While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard about it. Jacob had twelve sons:

Wana wa Lea ni Reubeni, mzaliwa wa kwanza wa Yakobo, na Simeoni, na Lawi, na Yuda, na Isakari, na Zabuloni.
The sons of Leah were Reuben the firstborn of Jacob, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

Wana wa Raheli, ni Yusufu na Benyamini.
The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.
25
Wana wa Bilha, kijakazi wa Raheli, ni Dani na Naftali.
The sons of Rachel’s maidservant Bilhah were Dan and Naphtali.

Wana wa Zilpa, kijakazi wa Lea, ni Gadi na Asheri. Hawa ndio wana wa Yakobo aliozaliwa katika Padan-aramu.
And the sons of Leah’s maidservant Zilpah were Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan-aram.

Yakobo akaja kwa Isaka, babaye, huko Mamre, mji wa Arba, ndio Hebroni, walipokaa ugenini Ibrahimu na Isaka.
Jacob returned to his father Isaac at Mamre, near Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.

Siku za Isaka zilikuwa miaka mia na themanini.
And Isaac lived 180 years.
29
Naye Isaka akakata roho, akafa, akakusanyika kwa watu wake, ni mzee, ameshiba siku. Esau na Yakobo, wanawe, wakamzika
Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, old and full of years. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
