Mwanadamu aliyezaliwa na mwanamke Siku zake za kuishi si nyingi, naye hujaa taabu.
"Man, who is born of a woman, Is of few days, and full of trouble.
Yeye huchanua kama vile ua, kisha hukatwa; Hukimbia kama kivuli, wala hakai kamwe.
He comes forth like a flower, and is cut down. He also flees like a shadow, and doesn't continue.
Nawe, je! Wafumbua macho yako kumwangalia mtu kama yeye, Na kunitia katika hukumu pamoja nawe?
Do you open your eyes on such a one, And bring me into judgment with you?
Ni nani awezaye kutoa kitu kilicho safi kitoke katika kitu kichafu? Hapana awezaye.
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one.
Kwa kuwa siku zake zimeamriwa, hesabu ya miezi yake unayo wewe, Nawe umemwekea mipaka yake asiyoweza kuipita;
Seeing his days are determined, The number of his months is with you, And you have appointed his bounds that he can't pass;
Acha kumwangalia yeye, apate kupumzika, Hata atakapoitimiza siku yake, kama aliyeajiriwa.
Look away from him, that he may rest, Until he shall accomplish, as a hireling, his day.
Kwani yako matumaini ya mti, ya kuwa ukikatwa utachipuka tena, Wala machipukizi yake hayatakoma.
"For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, That the tender branch of it will not cease.
Ijapokuwa mizizi yake huchakaa mchangani, Na shina lake kufa katika udongo;
Though the root of it grows old in the earth, And the stock of it dies in the ground;
Lakini kwa harufu ya maji utachipuka, Na kutoa matawi kama mche.
Yet through the scent of water it will bud, And put forth boughs like a plant.
Lakini mwanadamu hufa, huifariki dunia; Naam, mwanadamu hutoa roho, naye yupo wapi?
But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?
Kama vile maji kupwa katika bahari, Na mto kupunguka na kukatika;
As the waters fail from the sea, And the river wastes and dries up,
Ni vivyo mwanadamu hulala chini, asiinuke; Hata wakati wa mbingu kutokuwako tena, hawataamka, Wala kuamshwa usingizini.
So man lies down and doesn't rise; Until the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, Nor be roused out of their sleep.
Laiti ungenificha kuzimuni, Ukanilinda kwa siri, hata ghadhabu zako zitakapopita, Na kuniandikia muda ulioamriwa, na kunikumbuka!
"Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, That you would keep me secret, until your wrath is past, That you would appoint me a set time, and remember me!
Mtu akifa, je! Atakuwa hai tena? Mimi ningengoja siku zote za vita vyangu, Hata kufunguliwa kwangu kunifikilie.
If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my warfare would I wait, Until my release should come.
Wewe ungeita, nami ningekujibu; Ungekuwa na tamaa ya kazi ya mikono yako.
You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire to the work of your hands.
Lakini sasa wazihesabu hatua zangu; Je! Huchungulii dhambi yangu?
But now you number my steps. Don't you watch over my sin?
Kosa langu limetiwa muhuri mfukoni, Nawe waufunga uovu wangu.
My disobedience is sealed up in a bag. You fasten up my iniquity.
Lakini, tazama, mlima ukianguka hutoweka, Nalo jabali huondolewa mahali pake;
"But the mountain falling comes to nothing; The rock is removed out of its place;
Maji mengi huyapunguza mawe; Mafuriko yake huuchukua mchanga wa nchi; Nawe matumaini ya wanadamu wayaangamiza.
The waters wear the stones; The torrents of it wash away the dust of the earth: So you destroy the hope of man.
Wewe wamshinda nguvu sikuzote, naye hupita aende zake Wabadili sura zake, na kumpeleka aondoke.
You forever prevail against him, and he passes; You change his face, and send him away.
Wanawe hufikilia heshima, wala yeye hajui; Kisha wao huaibishwa, lakini yeye hana habari zao.
His sons come to honor, and he doesn't know it; They are brought low, but he doesn't perceive it of them.
Lakini mwili ulio juu yake una maumivu, Na nafsi yake ndani huomboleza.
But his flesh on him has pain; His soul within him mourns."
