Kisha Bwana akanena na Musa, akamwambia,
And the LORD said to Moses,

Tuma watu, ili waende wakaipeleleze nchi ya Kanaani, niwapayo wana wa Israeli; katika kabila ya baba zao mtamtuma mtu mmoja, kila mtu na awe mkuu kati yao.
“Send out for yourself men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each of their fathers’ tribes send one man who is a leader among them.”

Basi Musa akawatuma kutoka nyika ya Parani kama alivyoagizwa na Bwana; wote walikuwa ni watu walio vichwa vya wana wa Israeli.
So at the command of the LORD, Moses sent them out from the Wilderness of Paran. All the men were leaders of the Israelites,

Na majina yao ni haya; katika kabila ya Reubeni, Shamua mwana Zakuri.
and these were their names: From the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur;

Katika kabila ya Simeoni, Shafati mwana wa Hori.
from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;

Katika kabila ya Yuda, Kalebu mwana wa Yefune.
from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;

Katika kabila ya Isakari, Igali mwana wa Yusufu.
from the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;
8
Katika kabila ya Efraimu, Hoshea mwana wa Nuni
from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;
9
Katika kabila ya Benyamini, Palti mwana wa Rafu.
from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;
10
Katika kabila ya Zabuloni, Gadieli mwana wa Sodi.
from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi;
11
Katika kabila ya Yusufu, yaani, katika kabila ya Manase, Gadi mwana wa Susi.
from the tribe of Manasseh (a tribe of Joseph), Gaddi son of Susi;
12
Katika kabila ya Dani, Amieli mwana wa Gemali.
from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli;
13
Katika kabila ya Asheri, Sethuri mwana wa Mikaeli.
from the tribe of Asher, Sethur son of Michael;
14
Katika kabila ya Naftali, Nabi mwana wa Wofsi.
from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vophsi;
15
Katika kabila ya Gadi, Geueli mwana wa Maki.
and from the tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Machi.
16
Hayo ndiyo majina ya hao watu waliotumwa na Musa waende kuipeleleza nchi. Na huyo Hoshea mwana wa Nuni, Musa akamwita jina lake Yoshua.
These were the names of the men Moses sent to spy out the land; and Moses gave to Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.

Musa akawapeleka ili waipeleleze nchi ya Kanaani, akawaambia, Pandeni sasa katika Negebu mkapande milimani,
When Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, he told them, “Go up through the Negev and into the hill country.

mkaitazame nchi ni ya namna gani; na watu wanaokaa ndani yake, kwamba ni hodari au dhaifu, kwamba ni wachache au wengi;
See what the land is like and whether its people are strong or weak, few or many.
19
na nchi wanayoikaa kwamba ni njema au mbaya; kwamba wanakaa katika matuo au katika ngome;
Is the land where they live good or bad? Are the cities where they dwell open camps or fortifications?
20
nayo nchi ni ya namna gani, kwamba ni nchi ya unono au ya njaa, kwamba ina msitu au sivyo. Iweni na moyo mkuu, mkayalete matunda ya nchi. Basi wakati ule ulikuwa wakati wa kuiva zabibu za kwanza.
Is the soil fertile or unproductive? Are there trees in it or not? Be courageous and bring back some of the fruit of the land.” (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.)

Basi wakapanda wakaipeleleza nchi toka jangwa la Sini hata Rehobu, mpaka kuingia Hamathi.
So they went up and spied out the land from the Wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo-hamath.
22
Wakapanda katika Negebu, wakafika Hebroni; na Ahimani, na Sheshai, na Talmai, wana wa Anaki, walikuwako huko. Nao Hebroni ulijengwa miaka saba kabla ya Soani wa Misri.
They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, dwelled. It had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.

Wakafika bonde la Eshkoli, na huko wakakata tawi lenye kishada kimoja cha zabibu, wakalichukua kwa mti kati ya watu wawili; wakaleta makomamanga pia, na tini.
When they came to the Valley of Eshcol, they cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes, which they carried on a pole between two men. They also took some pomegranates and figs.

Bonde lile liliitwa bonde la Eshkoli kwa sababu ya hicho kishada walichokata huko wana wa Israeli.
Because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut there, that place was called the Valley of Eshcol.
25
Wakarejea baada ya kuipeleleza nchi, mwisho wa siku arobaini.
After forty days the men returned from spying out the land,

Wakaenda wakafika kwa Musa, na kwa Haruni, na kwa mkutano wote wa wana wa Israeli, katika jangwa la Parani, huko Kadeshi; wakawaletea habari, wao na mkutano wote, wakawaonyesha matunda ya nchi.
and they went back to Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran at Kadesh. They brought back a report for the whole congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

Wakamwambia wakasema, Tulifika nchi ile uliyotutuma, na hakika yake, ni nchi yenye wingi wa maziwa na asali, na haya ndiyo matunda yake.
And they gave this account to Moses: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and indeed, it is flowing with milk and honey. Here is some of its fruit!

Lakini watu wanaokaa katika nchi ile ni hodari, na miji yao ina maboma, nayo ni makubwa sana; na pamoja na hayo tuliwaona wana wa Anaki huko.
Nevertheless, the people living in the land are strong, and the cities are large and fortified. We even saw the descendants of Anak there.

Amaleki anakaa katika nchi ya Negebu; na Mhiti, na Myebusi, na Mwamori wanakaa katika milima, na Mkanaani anakaa karibu na bahari; na kando ya ukingo wa Yordani.
The Amalekites live in the land of the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live by the sea and along the Jordan.”

Kalebu akawatuliza watu mbele ya Musa, akasema, Na tupande mara, tukaitamalaki; maana twaweza kushinda bila shaka.
Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “We must go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly conquer it!”
31
Bali wale watu waliopanda pamoja naye wakasema, Hatuwezi kupanda tupigane na watu hawa; kwa maana wana nguvu kuliko sisi.
But the men who had gone up with him replied, “We cannot go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are!”
32
Wakawaletea wana wa Israeli habari mbaya ya ile nchi waliyoipeleleza, wakasema, Ile nchi tuliyopita kati yake ili kuipeleleza, ni nchi inayowala watu wanaoikaa; na watu wote tuliowaona ndani yake ni watu warefu mno.
So they gave the Israelites a bad report about the land that they had spied out: “The land we explored devours its inhabitants, and all the people we saw there are great in stature.
33
Kisha, huko tuliwaona Wanefili, wana wa Anaki, waliotoka kwa hao Wanefili; tukajiona nafsi zetu kuwa kama mapanzi; nao ndivyo walivyotuona sisi.
We even saw the Nephilim there—the descendants of Anak that come from the Nephilim! We seemed like grasshoppers in our own sight, and we must have seemed the same to them!”
