Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before them, and many fell slain on Mount Gilboa.

Wafilisti wakamfuatia sana Sauli na wanawe, Wafilisti wakawaua Yonathani, na Abinadabu, na Malkishua, wana wa Sauli.
The Philistines hotly pursued Saul and his sons, and they killed Saul’s sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.

Tena vita vilikuwa vikali sana juu ya Sauli, na wapiga upinde wakampata; hata akafadhaika sana kwa sababu ya wapiga upinde.
When the battle intensified against Saul, the archers overtook him and wounded him critically.

Ndipo Sauli akamwambia yule mchukua silaha zake, Futa upanga wako, unichome nao; wasije watu hawa wasiotahiriwa wakanichoma, na kunisimanga. Lakini huyo mchukua silaha zake akakataa; kwa sababu aliogopa sana. Basi Sauli akautwaa upanga wake, akauangukia.
Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through with it, or these uncircumcised men will come and run me through and torture me!” But his armor-bearer was terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.

Na mchukua silaha zake alipoona ya kuwa Sauli amekufa, yeye naye akauangukia upanga wake, akafa pamoja naye.
When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his own sword and died with him.

Hivyo Sauli akafa, na wanawe watatu, na mchukua silaha zake, na watu wake wote pamoja siku iyo hiyo.
So Saul, his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all his men died together that same day.

Kisha watu wa Israeli waliokuwa upande wa pili wa bonde lile, na ng'ambo ya Yordani, walipoona ya kuwa watu wa Israeli wamekimbia, na ya kuwa Sauli na wanawe wamekufa, wakaiacha miji yao, wakakimbia; nao Wafilisti wakaenda wakakaa humo.
When the Israelites along the valley and those on the other side of the Jordan saw that the army of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their cities and ran away. So the Philistines came and occupied their cities.

Hata ikawa, siku ya pili yake, Wafilisti walipokwenda kuwateka nyara waliouawa, walimwona Sauli na wanawe watatu wameanguka juu ya mlima wa Gilboa.
The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

Wakamkata kichwa, wakamvua silaha zake, wakapeleka wajumbe kwenda nchi ya Wafilisti pande zote, ili kutangaza habari nyumbani mwa sanamu zao, na kwa watu.
They cut off Saul’s head, stripped off his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temples of their idols and among their people.

Wakaziweka silaha zake nyumbani mwa Maashtorethi; wakakitundika kiwiliwili chake katika ukuta wa Beth-shani.
They put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and hung his body on the wall of Beth-shan.

Na wenyeji wa Yabesh-Gileadi waliposikia habari zake, jinsi hao Wafilisti walivyomtenda Sauli,
When the people of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,

wakainuka mashujaa wote, wakaenda usiku kucha, wakautwaa mwili wake Sauli, na miili ya wanawe, na kuiondoa ukutani kwa Beth-shani nao wakaja Yabeshi, na kuiteketeza huko.
all their men of valor set out, journeyed all night, and retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth-shan. When they arrived at Jabesh, they burned the bodies there.

Kisha wakaitwaa mifupa yao, na kuizika chini ya mkwaju huko Yabeshi, nao wakafunga siku saba.
Then they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.
