Lyrics
1.Ati twonane mtoni? maji mazuri ya mbingu;
Yanatokea mwangani, penye kiti cha Mungu.
Naam, twonane mtoni! Watakatifu, kwenu ni mtoni!
Tutakutanika kule mtoni penye kiti cha Mungu.
2.Tukitembea mtoni na Yesu mchunga wetu,
Daima tu ibadani usoni pake kwetu.
3.Tukisafiri mtoni tutue ulemeao,

Meaning & Inspiration
“Ati Tuonane Mtoni?” is a Swahili hymn of hope focused on the river that flows beside God’s throne. Each verse looks toward the gathering of the saints, life in the presence of Jesus, release from earthly burdens, and unending praise. The repeated question about meeting at the river is answered with confidence: the faithful will assemble there before God. Images of crowns, radiant glory, joy, and true peace frame that meeting as the fulfillment of Christian hope.
The central scene closely reflects Revelation 22:1-5, where the river of the water of life flows from the throne of God and the Lamb, and God’s servants worship before him. The description of Jesus as shepherd also corresponds with Revelation 7:15-17, where the Lamb leads the redeemed to springs of living water. By returning to the river after every stage of the pilgrimage, the hymn joins perseverance with expectation. Its final verses anticipate lasting fellowship, worship, comfort, and peace in God’s presence.
