About Bahati
Kevin Mbuvi Kioko, known by the stage name Bahati, is a Kenyan singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur who first gained recognition as a gospel artist. Born in 1994, he was raised at the ABC Children’s Home in the Mathare slums of Nairobi after losing his mother at a young age. He began his music career in 2012 with the release of his first single, “Siku ya Kwanza.”
Bahati rose to prominence in the gospel music industry with hit songs including “Mama,” “Barua,” and “Machozi.” His work earned early recognition at major awards shows. In 2013, he won Best Upcoming Artist at the Groove Awards. The following year, he won Best Gospel Artist at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMMA). In 2015, he took home Groove Awards for Male Artist of the Year, as well as Song of the Year, Video of the Year, and Most Downloaded Skiza Tune of the Year for “Barua.”
In 2015, Bahati founded the record label EMB (Eastlands Most Beloved) to support upcoming artists. He later released the album Barua za Bahati, followed by Love Like This in 2021 and Village Love in 2024. Over time, he publicly discussed his transition from the gospel music industry to secular music, citing challenges and toxicity he encountered within the gospel scene. Bahati has also been featured in reality television shows including Being Bahati and The Bahati’s Empire.
