Meaning & Inspiration
Nuru Ya Ulimwengu is a Swahili choir song about believers as the light of the world and salt of the earth. The opening line repeats those titles from Jesus' teaching, and the verses say that the singer and the listener have been saved to shine on the world with the light of Jesus. They say that by God's grace they have been made worthy and entrusted with a stewardship, as stewards of the Father's secrets and witnesses of His goodness and blessing, so that others may be drawn to Jesus.
The bridge calls the body of Christ, the church, to unite and to shine so that people see their deeds. The text follows Matthew 5:13-16, with 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 on stewards of God's mysteries, Ephesians 4:3-6 on unity and Philippians 2:15 on shining. The call-and-response parts make it an easy choir piece with a clear message.
