Meaning & Inspiration
“Huniongoza” by Mercy Linah is a Swahili song of trust in Christ’s guidance. The title means “He leads me,” and the first verse says that wherever the singer goes, the Savior leads, and so there is joy. The chorus says that He leads and holds with a sure hand, and that the singer will walk with Christ who guides.
The next verses cover different conditions of life. Sometimes the singer is in trouble and sometimes at rest, but the Lord is present always. When He holds the hand, there will be no complaining, and whatever He brings is received. The last verse looks to the end of work and the arrival in heaven, where the singer will give glory to Christ who led.
The song is close in spirit to Psalm 23:3-4, Psalm 73:23-24 and Isaiah 58:11, which speak of being led and held by the Lord. Its repeated chorus makes it easy for a congregation to learn, and its tone is calm and thankful.
