About Evelyn Wanjiru
Evelyn Wanjiru (born 6 May 1990) is a Kenyan gospel singer, worship leader, songwriter, and music director whose career began in her local church and school music festivals when she was nine years old. She went on to become a prominent voice in contemporary Christian music in East Africa, releasing several albums and performing internationally in countries including the United States, South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Uganda, and South Sudan.
Wanjiru is the co-founder of Bwenieve Production alongside her husband, producer Agundabweni Akweyu. Her debut album, Waweza (originally titled Mazingira), gained widespread attention after its title track was used for a Kenyan government environmental campaign. She later released the albums Mungu Mkuu, Matendo, and Mwanga, along with songs such as “Tulia,” “Nikufahamu,” “Jehovah Elohim,” and “Asante.”
Her work has been recognized at the Groove Awards, where Mungu Mkuu won Album of the Year in 2015 and the song “Tulia” (featuring Vicky Kitonga) won Collaboration of the Year in 2016. The album Mungu Mkuu also received a Boomplay plaque for surpassing one million streams. Beyond music, Wanjiru hosts an annual worship event called “Praise Atmosphere” and was appointed a music ambassador for the Mau Forest conservation initiative in Kenya. In 2024, she published a book titled The Wait, which documents her personal experience of faith and motherhood.
