After the time of Abimelech, a man of Issachar, Tola son of Puah, the son of Dodo, rose up to save Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim.

Huyo akawa mwamuzi wa Israeli muda wa miaka ishirini na mitatu, akafa, akazikwa katika Shamiri.
Tola judged Israel twenty-three years, and when he died, he was buried in Shamir.

Tola was followed by Jair the Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years.

Huyo alikuwa na wana thelathini waliokuwa wakipanda wana-punda thelathini, nao walikuwa na miji thelathini, ambayo inaitwa Hawoth-yairi hata hivi leo, nayo iko katika nchi ya Gileadi.
He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys. And they had thirty towns in the land of Gilead, which to this day are called Havvoth-jair.

Kisha wana wa Israeli walifanya tena yaliyo maovu mbele za macho ya Bwana, wakawatumikia Mabaali, na Maashtorethi, na miungu ya Shamu, na miungu ya Sidoni, na miungu ya Moabu, na miungu ya wana wa Amoni, na miungu ya Wafilisti; nao wakamwacha Bwana, wala hawakumtumikia yeye.
And again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD. They served the Baals, the Ashtoreths, the gods of Aram, Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites and Philistines. Thus they forsook the LORD and did not serve Him.

So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and Ammonites,

who that very year harassed and oppressed the Israelites, and they did so for eighteen years to all the Israelites on the other side of the Jordan in Gilead, the land of the Amorites.

Wana wa Amoni nao wakavuka Yordani ili wapigane na Yuda, na kupigana na Benyamini, na nyumba ya Efraimu; basi hivyo Israeli walikuwa wanasumbuliwa sana.
The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim, and Israel was in deep distress.

Ndipo wana wa Israeli wakamlilia Bwana, wakisema, Sisi tumekufanyia dhambi, kwa sababu tumemwacha Mungu wetu, na kuyatumikia Mabaali.
Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD, saying, “We have sinned against You, for we have indeed forsaken our God and served the Baals.”

Naye Bwana akawaambia wana wa Israeli, Je! Sikuwaokoa ninyi na hao Wamisri, na Waamori, na wana wa Amoni, na Wafilisti?
The LORD replied, “When the Egyptians, Amorites, Ammonites, Philistines,

Hao Wasidoni nao, na Waamaleki, na Wamaoni, waliwaonea, nanyi mlinililia, nami niliwaokoa na mikono yao.
Sidonians, Amalekites, and Maonites oppressed you and you cried out to Me, did I not save you from their hands?

Lakini mmeniacha mimi, na kuitumikia miungu mingine; basi kwa ajili ya hayo mimi sitawaokoa tena.
But you have forsaken Me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you.
14
Haya, endeni mkaililie hiyo miungu mliyoichagua; na hiyo iwaokoe wakati wa kusumbuka kwenu.
Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you in your time of trouble.”

Wana wa Israeli wakamwambia Bwana Tumefanya dhambi; utufanyie yote uyaonayo kuwa ni mema; lakini tuokoe, twakusihi, siku hii ya leo, haya tu.
“We have sinned,” the Israelites said to the LORD. “Deal with us as You see fit; but please deliver us today!”

Nao wakaiondoa hiyo miungu ya kigeni iliyokuwa kati yao, nao wakamtumikia Bwana; na roho yake ilihuzunika kwa sababu ya msiba wa Israeli.
So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD, and He could no longer bear the misery of Israel.

Wakati huo wana wa Amoni walikutana pamoja, wakapanga marago huko Gileadi. Wana wa Israeli nao wakajikusanya wakapanga marago Mispa.
Then the Ammonites were called to arms and camped in Gilead, and the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah.

Na hao watu, wakuu wa Gileadi, wakaambiana wao kwa wao, Je! Ni mtu yupi atakayeanza kupigana na wana wa Amoni? Yeye atakuwa ni kichwa juu ya wenyeji wote wa Gileadi.
And the rulers of Gilead said to one another, “Whoever will launch the attack against the Ammonites will be the head of all who live in Gilead.”
