Meaning & Inspiration
Nijaze is a Swahili prayer for the Holy Spirit to rule and fill the singer. The opening asks the Holy Spirit, who is over all, to reign, and says the singer wants to go far beyond understanding, for His image to be formed, His will to be done and His presence to be the singer's portion. The refrain asks Him to make a home within and to fill the singer without ceasing, calling Him the breath.
The next section asks the teacher of teachers to instruct so that the singer is no hindrance to His presence, to restore thirst for Him, to open the ear to hear more, and says nothing is more valuable or wise than He is. The themes fit John 14:16-17, Ephesians 5:18, Psalm 63:1 and 1 Corinthians 2:10-11 where the Spirit searches the depths of God. The repeated plea to fill makes the song a patient time of waiting on the Spirit.
