Janet Otieno

Janet Achieng Otieno is a Kenyan gospel music singer and songwriter. She was born on December 24, 1977, in Kisumu, Kenya. Her musical journey began in church, where she started singing in 2010 and served as a lead singer in her church choir. She met her husband, Alfred Otieno, while attending the Redeemed Gospel Church.

Otieno’s professional music career launched in 2013 with the release of her debut song, “Napokea Kwako,” featuring Christina Shusho. The same year she released “Uniongoze.” The song “Napokea Kwako” earned her the “Collabo of the Year” award at the 2014 Mwafaka Awards. Her early work also garnered nominations for “Female Artist of the Year,” “Collaboration of the Year,” and “Song of the Year” at the 2014 Groove Awards.

In the years that followed, Otieno continued to release gospel music, including “Heshima” (2014), “Mtafute” (2014), “Tembea Nami” (2015), and “Roho Wako” (2015). Her 2018 achievements included a nomination for “Best Female Artiste in African Inspirational Music” at the AFRIMA Awards. More recent releases include “Wewe Ni Zaidi” (2024) and the EP “Unaposhuka” (2025).
