Meaning & Inspiration
“Mimi Siwezi” by Essence of Worship is a Swahili song of dependence on Jesus. The title means “I cannot,” and the refrain says, “Mimi siwezi neno lolote bila wewe Yesu,” which means “I cannot do anything without You, Jesus.” The same statement is repeated with two words for thing, neno and jambo, so that no part of life is left out.
The thought is close to John 15:5, where Jesus says that apart from Him His followers can do nothing. It also fits the other side of that promise in Philippians 4:13, which speaks of being able to do all things through Christ who gives strength, and 2 Corinthians 3:5, which says that sufficiency comes from God.
A short bridge adds only “ooh ooh Yesu,” then the refrain returns, so the lyric reads as a simple confession rather than a story. The repetition makes it easy for a congregation to join and keeps attention on one thought. The song’s message is humble reliance on Christ for every task, large or small.
