About Maverick City Music
Maverick City Music is an American contemporary Christian worship music collective founded in 2018 by Tony Brown and Jonathan Jay. The group originated in Atlanta, Georgia, and was formed to create a community for artists and songwriters to collaborate, aiming to break down barriers between contemporary Christian music and the gospel world.
The collective debuted in 2019 with the release of two extended plays, Maverick City, Vol. 1 and Maverick City, Vol. 2. The following year saw the album Maverick City Vol. 3 Part 1 and the songs “Promises” and “Man of Your Word.” In 2021 the group released the collaborative album Old Church Basement with Elevation Worship, featuring the songs “Jireh” and “Talking to Jesus.” That same year, they released Kingdom Book One in partnership with Kirk Franklin. The collective functions as both a music group and a record label, and has also worked with artists including Upperroom.
Maverick City Music has received multiple industry honors. They have won five Grammy Awards, including Best Contemporary Christian Music Album at the 64th Grammy Awards for Old Church Basement. The collective has also earned five GMA Dove Awards, one Billboard Music Award, and one Soul Train Music Award.
