Meaning & Inspiration
Hymn Of The Ages gathers the language of classic hymns into one song of praise to God's faithfulness. The first verse calls Jesus precious Lord and treasure, a privilege to be His delight, with new glories seen morning by morning, which echoes Great Is Thy Faithfulness. The chorus says all of the promises and praise that God's people have sung through the ages come to the same song: great is Your faithfulness, great is Your name.
The second verse calls on the God of fathers, peace and the Redeemer of history and the High King of Heaven, and the third speaks of blessed assurance, prone to wander but pursued, and a story of goodness to sing all days. The wording draws on Lamentations 3:22-23, Psalm 145:4, Exodus 3:15 on the God of the fathers, and Psalm 100:5.
