Lyrics

We’ve got evidence

We are the living proof

You keep promises

And your word won't fail

You always keep your word

That's what You do

That's what You do

We’ve got evidence

We are the living proof

You keep promises

And your word won't fail

You always keep your word

Meaning & Inspiration

I’ve been sitting here thinking about that line, “We are the living proof.” It’s a bold thing to claim, isn’t it? When I hear Naomi Raine sing that, I find myself flipping back to those moments in the psalms where the writers are just constantly recounting how God brought them out of the pit. It makes sense, in a way. If the word of God doesn’t return void, then my life—my actual existence after all the things I’ve messed up—has to be some kind of sign that He’s telling the truth. It feels like Paul talking to the Corinthians about being a letter from Christ, written not with ink but with the Spirit.

But then I stop and look at my own heart and I’m not always sure I look like very good "evidence." That’s where the friction is for me. If the song is saying that my current state is the proof that He keeps His promises, am I saying that my life is always a perfect representation of His faithfulness? That feels like a heavy weight to carry. I want to believe it, because I know He’s been working on me, but it’s easy to get lost in looking at my own performance instead of His track record. The song keeps circling back to the idea that His word won't fail, and that’s the solid ground. It’s not about me being perfect evidence, but maybe just evidence that He’s merciful enough to keep someone like me around, which is a different kind of truth altogether. It makes me wonder if we sometimes treat our own success or transformation as the primary proof of God, rather than His death and resurrection being the only proof that actually matters. I’m still chewing on whether it’s healthy to see ourselves as the evidence or if we’re just the people standing in the light of the evidence He already provided.
