Meaning & Inspiration
Mighty One is a worship song built on a personal testimony of tasting God's goodness. The refrain calls God "Mighty One" and says, "We worship You," and the verse gives the reasons: tasting and seeing His goodness, standing in the power of His presence, feeling the depths of His mercy and being surrounded by His love.
The phrase about tasting and seeing echoes Psalm 34:8, and the mention of a love that surrounds fits Psalm 32:10 and Romans 8:38-39. A long section repeats "For You alone are worthy of the highest praise and all my love," which gives the song its devotional center. A spoken passage near the end describes God's love as something supernatural rather than human, calling it "mighty love." The extended repetition leaves room for a congregation to sing slowly and respond, and the tone is reverent and joyful.
