Maverick City Music + Chandler Moore - Man Of Your Word Lyrics
Lyrics
You're a man of Your word, yeah
All things are possible
When we believe
All chains are breakable
When we receive
Yahweh, You keep Your promises
If You said it, We believe it
If You said it
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
Cause You are a man of Your word
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
You are a man of Your word
All things are possible
When we believe
All chains are breakable
When we receive
Yahweh, You keep Your promises
Yahweh, You keep Your promises
If You said it, We believe it
If You said it
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
Cause You are a man of Your word
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
You are a man of Your word
We have this confidence
You'll finish what You started
God has never failed
You won't start with me
You are present in every step
Patient in every heartache
God You have never failed
You won't start with me
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
You are a man of Your word
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
You are a man of Your word
We have this confidence
You'll finish what You started
God has never failed
You won't start with me
You are present in every step
Patient in every heartache
God You have never failed
You won't start with me
I believe it, I believe it
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
You are a man of Your word
I am Who You say I am
I am Who You say I am
I am Who You say I am
I am Who You say I am
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
You are a man of Your word

Meaning & Inspiration
I’ve been playing this one from the Live at Maverick City album, released back in February, over and over. It hits that part of my gut where I’m always afraid God might actually be fickle, like I am. There’s something about the line about Him finishing what He started that pulls me right back to Paul writing to the church in Philippi—that idea that He who began a good work is actually going to see it through to the end. It’s hard to hold onto that when life feels messy, but the song makes it sound so simple, almost too simple. I find myself wondering if my belief is really the key, or if it’s just His nature regardless of whether I can muster the faith to hold onto it.
It’s bold, saying God won’t start with me and then fail. It’s definitely scriptural to say He is faithful, even when we aren't, but I catch myself tripping over the way it links all things being possible directly to when we believe. I know Mark 9 is sitting there in the back of my head—the man who tells Jesus he believes but needs help with his unbelief—and I feel like the song skips over that wrestle. It feels like it’s saying the weight is on my ability to receive and trust, and sometimes that makes me feel more burdened than relieved. Am I the one who makes the chains breakable by receiving? Or does He break them because He is Yahweh, regardless of my state?
The part about God being present in the heartache sits differently. It feels more grounded, more like the way He walked with the Israelites in the wilderness. He didn’t just leave them; He was right there in the frustration and the waiting. When I hear them sing about Him being a man of His word, it makes me think of Numbers 23 where it says God is not a man that He should lie. It’s a bit jarring to call God a "man of His word" in a song, even if I know what they mean, because He’s so much more than that. But then I think about how He put on flesh for us, and maybe that’s the bridge. Still, I find myself asking if I’m resting in His promises because they are true, or because I’m just trying to convince myself they are true by singing it.
