Lyrics
Verse 1
If the altar’s where you meet us
Take me there, take me there
If you're looking for an offering
It’s right here, my life is here
I’ll be a living sacrifice for you
Pre-Chorus
You’re a fire
The refiner
I wanna be consumed
Chorus
I wanna be tried by fire
Purified
You take whatever you desire
Lord here’s my life
Verse 2
If your glory wants to come in
Let it fall, we want it all
Lord your fire is consuming
Fill this place, set it ablaze
I’ll be a living sacrifice for you
Pre-Chorus (Repeat)
You’re a fire
The refiner
I wanna be consumed
Chorus (Repeat)
I wanna be tried by fire
Purified
You take whatever you desire
Lord here’s my life
Bridge
Clean my hands, purify my heart
I wanna burn for you, only for You
Take my life as a sacrifice
I wanna burn for you, only for You

Meaning & Inspiration
“Refiner” by Maverick City Music is a worship song of surrender built on the image of fire. The opening offers an altar as a meeting place, asks to be taken there, and says that if God is looking for an offering, the singer’s life is here. He will be “a living sacrifice,” close to Romans 12:1.
The pre-chorus names God as a fire and the refiner and asks to be consumed. The chorus continues, “I wanna be tried by fire, purified, You take whatever You desire, Lord, here’s my life.” The refining imagery recalls Malachi 3:2-3 and 1 Peter 1:7.
The second verse asks God’s glory to come in and fill the place, using fire as the sign of His presence, near Exodus 40:34-35. The bridge asks for clean hands and a purified heart, close to Psalm 24:4, and repeats the wish to burn for Him only. The song is a prayer of consecration.
