Lyrics
Intro
Make us Your temples tonight
We're Your home, You can stay
Verse 1
Temples built with hands
Laid with precious stones
But all along You wanted to make us Your treasured home
Mansions made of men
Can touch the sky from earth
But still Your house of choice was broken vessels made of dirt
Chorus
So make my heart Your home (Ooh, ooh)
All that's mine is Yours (Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
So make my heart Your home (Ooh, ooh)
All my life is Yours (Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Verse 2
What about the mess in me? (He was born in a manger)
And what if I'm unclean? (He'll make you new, that's what He does)
What if I fall away? (He'll hold you close, won't let go)
He's knocking on the door of your house
Oh, let Him in, let Him in
Chorus
So make my heart Your home (Ooh, ooh)
All that's mine is Yours (Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
So make my heart Your home (Ooh, ooh)
All my life is Yours (Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)

You can stay here a little while longer
I enjoy when You're around, Lord

Meaning & Inspiration
This worship song from Maverick City Music is a prayer that asks God to dwell in the believer as a home rather than visit as a guest. The verses contrast temples "built with hands" and "mansions made of men" with the choice of "broken vessels made of dirt," a line that points to ordinary people as the place where God chooses to live.
The second verse answers the fears that keep people from opening up: the mess, the uncleanness, the possibility of falling away. The spoken replies promise that God "will make you new" and "hold you close," and the image of Him "knocking on the door" recalls the invitation in Revelation 3:20.
The long bridge turns the song into a simple act of hospitality, with the repeated lines "Come on in, take a seat" and "Never leave, oh Jesus, stay with me." The tags then name the places where that presence is wanted: heart, mind, soul, home, job and family. It suits extended times of worship and prayer ministry.
