Lyrics
Verse 1
Nainua macho yangu
Nitazame mbinguni
Moyo Wangu unasema niwe Mungu wangu
Kilindi cha moyo Wangu kimefurika neno lako
Wacha nikwabudu ewe Mungu wangu
kwenye kiti cha rehema, kumejawa utukufu wako
Wacha nikwabudu ewe Mungu wangu
kileleni pa msalaba, kumeandikwa jina lako
Simba wa wayahudi ndiwe Mungu waangu
Refrain (x2)
Shujaa wa msalaba, umeinuliwa juu.
Wacha nikwabudu ewe Mungu wangu
Verse 2
Wingu la uwepo wako, limeshuka kwa watu wako
Utukufu una wewe ewe Mungu wangu
Nguvu zilizo shinda kaburi
zionekane kwa watu wako.
Nani kama wewe ewe Mungu wangu
Makovu na misumari yatangaza utukufu wako Baba
Wacha nikwabudu ewe Mungu wangu
Taji ya miba na misumari
Yatangaza uwezo wako
Mfalme wa wafalme ndiwe Mungu wangu
Refrain
Shujaa wa msalaba, umeinuliwa juu
Wacha nikwabudu ewe Mungu wangu
Verse 3
Siku ya msiba wangu
Nitalitaja jina lako
Bwana wa Mabwana ndiwe Mungu wangu
Sitanyamaza mchana sitakaa kimya usiku
Wacha nikusifu ewe Mungu wangu
Nguvu na uweza wako ziko mikononi mwako
Nani kama wewe ewe Mungu wangu
Ulipewa jina jipya lipitalo majina yote
Bwana wa mabwana ewe Mungu wangu
Refrain (x3)
Shujaa wa msalaba, umeinuliwa juu
Wacha nikwabudu ewe Mungu wangu

Meaning & Inspiration
“Shujaa wa Msalaba,” meaning “Hero of the Cross,” is a Swahili worship song by Rose Muhando. The verses begin with lifting the eyes toward heaven and saying that the heart calls God its own. The repeated line “Wacha nikuabudu ewe Mungu wangu,” or “let me worship You, my God,” answers each image in turn.
The images center on the cross: the mercy seat filled with glory, the name written at the top of the cross, scars and nails that declare God’s glory, and the crown of thorns that announces His power. The refrain calls Him the hero of the cross who is lifted high. The last verse promises to call on His name in the day of trouble and to stay silent neither by day nor by night.
The themes are close to Philippians 2:9-11, Colossians 2:14-15 and Psalm 20:1, on the exalted name of Jesus, the victory of the cross and calling on God in trouble.
