Meaning & Inspiration
Yu Hai Yesu is a short Swahili song of praise built on the declaration in its title, which means that Jesus lives. The opening lines repeat the claim and are followed by the statement that his name is lifted high, because he has risen and is worthy.
The second section focuses on the resurrection itself. Repeating that Jesus has risen over death, it adds that he has condemned the grave and its power. The structure is simple and repetitive, which suits call-and-response singing in a gathering. The same refrain returns at the end, so the song closes where it began: with the name of Jesus exalted and the resurrection as the reason for celebration. Its themes line up with the Gospel accounts of the empty tomb and with passages that describe the exaltation of Christ's name above every other name.
