Meaning & Inspiration
“Neno Lako” by Godwill Babette is a Swahili worship song about the lasting power of God’s word. The refrain “Limeinuliwa neno lako,” meaning “Your word has been lifted up,” is paired with “Kama vile jana lina nguvu leo na milele,” which says it is as strong today and forever as it was yesterday. That line is close to Hebrews 13:8 and Isaiah 40:8, which speak of what does not change and of the word of God that stands forever.
The verse gives examples of that strength. The word surpasses the walls of Jericho, recalling Joshua 6, it commands water to come from rocks in the desert, recalling Exodus 17:6, and it carries grace for the forgotten and answers prayers beyond expectation.
The bridge turns to a request, “Unasema unatenda,” which means “You speak and You act,” inviting the congregation to watch and praise. The song’s message is confidence that God’s word still does what it did in Scripture.
