Hakuna mwingine kimbilio langu
Hakuna hakuna, Hakuna Mungu kama wewe Baba
Hakuna mwingine Baba wa wajane
Hakuna hakuna, Hakuna Mungu kama wewe Baba
Mungu ni Shefu, wa mataifa yote
Hakuna hakuna, Hakuna Mungu kama wewe Baba
Mungu ni shefu (shefu)
Shefu (wa mataifa yote)
Alitenda mambo makubwa
Wanadamu hawakuelewa (tenda tenda tenda)

Ni wa uwezo ni wa ushindi
Ni muweza yote kweli ni muumba wetu

Meaning & Inspiration

“Tenda” from the Call Me Favour live medley by Deborah Lukalu is a Swahili praise song that opens with “Hakuna Mungu kama wewe Baba,” meaning “there is no God like You, Father.” The verses add that there is no other refuge and no other father to the widows, and call God the chief of all nations who did great things that people did not understand.

The middle section repeats “Tenda eh Baba tenda,” a call for the Father to act, with the answers “God of life” and “Father of widows.” The last section turns to thanks for grace in everyday life: children praying, studies, a diploma and singing are all said to be received by grace. The medley closes by naming Jesus as the eternal God of blessing.

The lines are close to Psalm 68:5, Exodus 15:11 and Ephesians 2:8, on God as father of the fatherless, there being none like Him, and grace as a gift. The song is lively and meant for a congregation.
