Meaning & Inspiration
“Nimeona” by Angel Benard is a Swahili testimony of looking back. The first verse says, “Umbali huu nimefika,” meaning “I have come this far,” not by the singer’s own strength or power, but because the Lord has done it. The chorus repeats “Nimeona,” “I have seen,” and lists what has been seen: goodness that cannot be told, a God who does not fail or show favoritism, a faithful friend and a warrior in battle.
The bridge says that when the Lord speaks a word, it stands. The song ends by returning to goodness that cannot be put into words. The structure is plain, so each repeated “I have seen” adds one more reason for thanks, and the song reads as a personal testimony.
The lines are close to Zechariah 4:6, Psalm 34:8 and Isaiah 55:11, on not by might but by God’s Spirit, tasting His goodness and His word accomplishing what He sends it to do. The tone is thankful, calm and made for congregational singing.
