Na Yesu, hali amejaa Roho Mtakatifu, alirudi kutoka Yordani, akaongozwa na Roho muda wa siku arobaini nyikani,
Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

akijaribiwa na Ibilisi. Na siku hizo alikuwa hali kitu; hata zilipotimia, aliona njaa.
where for forty days He was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He was hungry.

Ibilisi akamwambia, Ukiwa ndiwe Mwana wa Mungu, liambie jiwe hili liwe mkate.
The devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”

Yesu akamjibu, Imeandikwa ya kwamba mtu hataishi kwa mkate tu.
But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’”

Akampandisha juu, akamwonyesha milki zote za ulimwengu kwa dakika moja.
Then the devil led Him up to a high place and showed Him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world.

Ibilisi akamwambia, Nitakupa wewe enzi hii yote, na fahari yake, kwa kuwa imo mikononi mwangu, nami humpa ye yote kama nipendavyo.
“I will give You authority over all these kingdoms and all their glory,” he said. “For it has been relinquished to me, and I can give it to anyone I wish.

Basi, wewe ukisujudu mbele yangu yote yatakuwa yako.
So if You worship me, it will all be Yours.”

Yesu akajibu akamwambia, Imeandikwa, Msujudie Bwana Mungu wako, umwabudu yeye peke yake.
But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”

Akamwongoza mpaka Yerusalemu, akamweka juu ya kinara cha hekalu, akamwambia, Ukiwa ndiwe Mwana wa Mungu, jitupe chini;
Then the devil led Him to Jerusalem and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple. “If You are the Son of God,” he said, “throw Yourself down from here.

kwa maana imeandikwa, Atakuagizia malaika zake wakulinde;
For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You to guard You carefully,

na ya kwamba,mikononi mwao watakuchukua, Usije ukajikwaa mguu wako katika jiwe.
and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”

Yesu akajibu akamwambia, Imenenwa, Usimjaribu Bwana Mungu wako.
But Jesus answered, “It also says, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

Basi alipomaliza kila jaribu, Ibilisi akamwacha akaenda zake kwa muda.
When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.
14
Yesu akarudi kwa nguvu za Roho, akenda Galilaya; habari zake zikaenea katika nchi zote za kandokando.
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and the news about Him spread throughout the surrounding region.
15
Naye alikuwa akifundisha katika masinagogi yao, akitukuzwa na watu wote.
He taught in their synagogues and was glorified by everyone.
16
Akaenda Nazareti, hapo alipolelewa; na siku ya sabato akaingia katika sinagogi kama ilivyokuwa desturi yake, akasimama ili asome.
Then Jesus came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. As was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath. And when He stood up to read,

Akapewa chuo cha nabii Isaya, akakifungua chuo, akatafuta mahali palipoandikwa,
the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it was written:

Roho wa Bwana yu juu yangu, Kwa maana amenitia mafuta kuwahubiri maskini habari njema. Amenituma kuwatangazia wafungwa kufunguliwa kwao, Na vipofu kupata kuona tena, Kuwaacha huru waliosetwa,
“The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed,

Na kutangaza mwaka wa Bwana uliokubaliwa.
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
20
Akakifunga chuo, akamrudishia mtumishi, akaketi; na watu wote waliokuwamo katika sinagogi wakamkazia macho.
Then He rolled up the scroll, returned it to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on Him,

Akaanza kuwaambia, Leo maandiko haya yametimia masikioni mwenu.
and He began by saying, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
22
Wakamshuhudia wote, wakiyastaajabia maneno ya neema yaliyotoka kinywani mwake, wakasema, Huyu siye mwana wa Yusufu?
All spoke well of Him and marveled at the gracious words that came from His lips. “Isn’t this the son of Joseph?” they asked.

Akawaambia, Hapana shaka mtaniambia mithali hii, Tabibu, jiponye nafsi yako; mambo yote tuliyosikia kwamba yametendeka Kapernaumu, yatende na hapa pia katika nchi yako mwenyewe.
Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to Me: ‘Physician, heal yourself! Do here in Your hometown what we have heard that You did in Capernaum.’”

Akasema, Amin, nawaambia ya kwamba, Hakuna nabii mwenye kukubaliwa katika nchi yake mwenyewe.
Then He added, “Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in his hometown.
25
Lakini, kwa hakika nawaambia, Palikuwa na wajane wengi katika nchi ya Israeli zamani za Eliya, wakati mbingu zilipofungwa miaka mitatu na miezi sita, njaa kuu ikaingia nchi nzima;
But I tell you truthfully that there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and great famine swept over all the land.

wala Eliya hakutumwa kwa mmojawapo, ila kwa mjane mmoja wa Sarepta katika nchi ya Sidoni.
Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to the widow of Zarephath in Sidon.

Tena, palikuwa na wenye ukoma wengi katika Israeli zamani za nabii Elisha, wala hapana aliyetakaswa ila Naamani, mtu wa Shamu.
And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet. Yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”

Wakajaa ghadhabu wote waliokuwa katika sinagogi walipoyasikia hayo.
On hearing this, all the people in the synagogue were enraged.
29
Wakaondoka wakamtoa nje ya mji, wakampeleka mpaka ukingo wa kilima ambacho mji wao umejengwa juu yake, wapate kumtupa chini;
They got up, drove Him out of the town, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw Him over the cliff.

lakini yeye alipita katikati yao, akaenda zake.
But Jesus passed through the crowd and went on His way.
31
Akashuka mpaka Kapernaumu, mji wa Galilaya, akawa akiwafundisha siku ya sabato;
Then He went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath He began to teach the people.

wakashangaa mno kwa mafundisho yake, kwa kuwa neno lake lilikuwa na uwezo.
They were astonished at His teaching, because His message had authority.
33
Na ndani ya sinagogi mlikuwa na mtu mwenye roho ya pepo mchafu, akalia kwa sauti kuu,
In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean demon. He cried out in a loud voice,

akisema, Acha! Tuna nini nawe, Yesu wa Nazareti? Umekuja kutuangamiza? Nakujua u nani, Mtakatifu wa Mungu.
“Ha! What do You want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”

Yesu akamkemea, akisema, Fumba kinywa, mtoke. Ndipo yule pepo akamwangusha katikati, akamtoka asimdhuru neno.
But Jesus rebuked the demon. “Be silent!” He said. “Come out of him!” At this, the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without harming him.
36
Mshangao ukawashika wote, wakasemezana wakisema, Ni neno gani hili, maana awaamuru pepo wachafu kwa uwezo na nguvu, nao hutoka.
All the people were overcome with amazement and asked one another, “What is this message? With authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”
37
Habari zake zikaenea kila mahali katika nchi ile.
And the news about Jesus spread throughout the surrounding region.
38
Akatoka katika sinagogi, akaingia katika nyumba ya Simoni. Naye mkwewe Simoni, mamaye mkewe, alikuwa ameshikwa na homa kali, wakamwomba kwa ajili yake.
After Jesus had left the synagogue, He went to the home of Simon, whose mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever. So they appealed to Jesus on her behalf,

Akasimama karibu naye, akaikemea ile homa, ikamwacha; mara hiyo akaondoka, akawatumikia.
and He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and began to serve them.
40
Na jua lilipokuwa likichwa, wote waliokuwa na wagonjwa wenye maradhi mbali mbali waliwaleta kwake, akaweka mikono yake juu ya kila mmoja akawaponya.
At sunset, all who were ill with various diseases were brought to Jesus, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them.

Pepo nao waliwatoka watu wengi, wakipiga kelele na kusema, Wewe u Mwana wa Mungu. Akawakemea, asiwaache kunena, kwa sababu walimjua kuwa ndiye Kristo.
Demons also came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But He rebuked the demons and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Christ.
42
Hata kulipokucha alitoka akaenda mahali pasipokuwa na watu; makutano wakawa wakimtafuta-tafuta, wakafika kwake, wakataka kumzuia asiondoke kwao.
At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place, and the crowds were looking for Him. They came to Him and tried to keep Him from leaving.

Akawaambia, Imenipasa kuihubiri habari njema ya ufalme wa Mungu katika miji mingine pia; maana kwa sababu hiyo nalitumwa.
But Jesus told them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well, because that is why I was sent.”
44
Basi, alikuwa akihubiri katika masinagogi ya Galilaya.
And He continued to preach in the synagogues of Judea.
