Ikawa siku moja, alipokuwa akiwafundisha watu hekaluni, na kuihubiri habari njema, wakuu wa makuhani na waandishi pamoja na wazee walimtokea ghafula;
One day as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts and proclaiming the gospel, the chief priests and scribes, together with the elders, came up to Him.

wakamwambia, wakisema, Tuambie, unatenda mambo hayo kwa mamlaka gani? Tena, ni nani aliyekupa mamlaka hii?
“Tell us,” they said, “by what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?”

Akajibu akawaambia, Nami nitawauliza ninyi neno moja; niambieni,
“I will also ask you a question,” Jesus replied. “Tell Me:

Ubatizo wa Yohana, je! Ulitoka mbinguni au kwa wanadamu?
John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or from men?”

Wakahojiana wao kwa wao, wakisema, Kama tukisema ulitoka mbinguni, atasema, Basi, mbona hamkumwamini?
They deliberated among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will ask, ‘Why did you not believe him?’

Na tukisema ulitoka kwa wanadamu, watu wote watatupiga kwa mawe, kwa kuwa wamemkubali Yohana kuwa ni nabii.
But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.”

Wakajibu, kwamba, Hatujui ulikotoka.
So they answered that they did not know where it was from.

Yesu akawaambia, Wala mimi siwaambii ninyi ni kwa mamlaka gani ninatenda mambo haya.
And Jesus replied, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”

Akaanza kuwaambia watu mfano huu; Mtu mmoja alipanda shamba la mizabibu; akapangisha wakulima, akaenda akakaa katika nchi nyingine muda mrefu.
Then He proceeded to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard, rented it out to some tenants, and went away for a long time.

Na wakati wa mavuno alituma mtumwa kwa wale wakulima ili wampe baadhi ya matunda ya mizabibu; wakulima wakampiga wakamfukuza mikono mitupu.
At harvest time, he sent a servant to the tenants to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat the servant and sent him away empty-handed.

Akatuma na mtumwa mwingine. Wakampiga huyu naye, wakamwaibisha wakamfukuza mikono mitupu.
So he sent another servant, but they beat him and treated him shamefully, sending him away empty-handed.

Akamtuma na wa tatu; huyu naye wakamtia jeraha, wakamtupa nje.
Then he sent a third, but they wounded him and threw him out.
13
Basi, bwana wa shamba la mizabibu alisema, Nifanyeje? Nitamtuma mwanangu, mpendwa wangu; yamkini watamheshimu yeye.
‘What shall I do?’ asked the owner of the vineyard. ‘I will send my beloved son. Perhaps they will respect him.’
14
Lakini, wale wakulima walipomwona, walishauriana wao kwa wao, wakisema, Huyu ndiye mrithi; haya, na tumwue, ili urithi uwe wetu.
But when the tenants saw the son, they discussed it among themselves and said, ‘This is the heir. Let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’

Wakamtupa nje ya shamba la mizabibu, wakamwua. Basi, bwana wa shamba la mizabibu atawatendeje?
So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

Atakuja na kuwaangamiza wakulima wale, na lile shamba la mizabibu atawapa wengine. Waliposikia hayo walisema, Hasha! Yasitukie haya!
He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.” And when the people heard this, they said, “May such a thing never happen!”

Akawakazia macho akasema, Maana yake nini basi neno hili lililoandikwa, Jiwe walilolikataa waashi, Hilo limekuwa jiwe kuu la pembeni?
But Jesus looked directly at them and said, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’?

Kila mtu aangukaye juu ya jiwe hilo atavunjika-vunjika; na ye yote ambaye litamwangukia litamsaga kabisa.
Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.”

Nao waandishi na wakuu wa makuhani walitafuta kumkamata saa iyo hiyo, wakawaogopa watu, maana walitambua ya kwamba mfano huu amewanenea wao.
When the scribes and chief priests realized that Jesus had spoken this parable against them, they sought to arrest Him that very hour. But they were afraid of the people.

Wakamvizia-vizia, wakatuma wapelelezi waliojifanya kuwa watu wa haki, ili wamnase katika maneno yake, wapate kumtia katika enzi na mamlaka ya liwali.
So they watched Him closely and sent spies who pretended to be sincere. They were hoping to catch Him in His words in order to hand Him over to the rule and authority of the governor.

Wakamwuliza, wakisema, Mwalimu, twajua ya kwamba wasema na kufundisha yaliyo ya haki, wala hujali cheo cha mtu, bali unafundisha njia ya Mungu kwa kweli.
“Teacher,” they inquired, “we know that You speak and teach correctly. You show no partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.

Je! Ni halali tumpe Kaisari kodi, au sivyo?
Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
23
Lakini yeye alitambua hila yao, akawaambia,
But Jesus saw through their duplicity and said to them,
24
Nionyesheni dinari. Ina sura na anwani ya nani? Wakamjibu, Ya Kaisari.
“Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” “Caesar’s,” they answered.
25
Akawaambia, Basi, vya Kaisari mpeni Kaisari, na vya Mungu mpeni Mungu.
So Jesus told them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
26
Wala hawakuweza kumshitaki kwa maneno yake mbele ya watu; wakastaajabia majibu yake, wakanyamaa.
And they were unable to trap Him in His words before the people. And amazed at His answer, they fell silent.
27
Kisha baadhi ya Masadukayo wakamwendea, wale wasemao ya kwamba hakuna ufufuo, wakamwuliza,
Then some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to question Him.
28
wakisema, Mwalimu, Musa alituandikia ya kuwa, mtu akifiwa na ndugu yake mwenye mke, lakini hana mtoto na amtwae huyu mke, ampatie ndugu yake mzao.
“Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man is to marry his brother’s widow and raise up offspring for him.

Basi, kulikuwa na ndugu saba. Wa kwanza alioa mke, akafa hana mtoto;
Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a wife but died childless.
30
na wa pili [akamtwaa yule mke, akafa hana mtoto;]
Then the second

hata wa tatu akamwoa, na kadhalika wote saba, wakafa, wasiache watoto.
and the third married the widow, and in the same way all seven died, leaving no children.
32
Mwisho akafa yule mke naye.
And last of all, the woman died.
33
Basi, katika ufufuo atakuwa mke wa yupi? Maana aliolewa na wote saba.
So then, in the resurrection, whose wife will she be? For all seven were married to her.”
34
Yesu akawaambia, Wana wa ulimwengu huu huoa na kuolewa;
Jesus answered, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage.
35
lakini, wale wahesabiwao kuwa wamestahili kuupata ulimwengu ule, na kule kufufuka katika wafu, hawaoi wala hawaolewi;
But those who are considered worthy to share in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage.
36
wala hawawezi kufa tena; kwa sababu huwa sawasawa na malaika, nao ni wana wa Mungu, kwa vile walivyo wana wa ufufuo.
In fact, they can no longer die, because they are like the angels. And since they are sons of the resurrection, they are sons of God.
37
Lakini, ya kuwa wafu hufufuliwa, hata na Musa alionyesha katika sura ya Kijiti, hapo alipomtaja Bwana kuwa ni Mungu wa Ibrahimu, na Mungu wa Isaka, na Mungu wa Yakobo.
Even Moses demonstrates that the dead are raised, in the passage about the burning bush. For he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
38
Naye si Mungu wa wafu, bali wa walio hai; kwa kuwa wote huishi kwake.
He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to Him all are alive.”
39
Waandishi wengine wakajibu wakamwambia, Mwalimu, umesema vema;
Some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, You have spoken well!”
40
wala hawakuthubutu kumwuliza neno baada ya hayo.
And they did not dare to question Him any further.
41
Akawaambia, Wasemaje watu kwamba Kristo ni Mwana wa Daudi?
Then Jesus declared, “How can it be said that the Christ is the Son of David?
42
Maana, Daudi mwenyewe asema katika chuo cha Zaburi, Bwana alimwambia Bwana wangu, Uketi mkono wangu wa kuume,
For David himself says in the book of Psalms: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand
43
Hata niwaweke adui zako Kuwa kiti cha kuwekea miguu yako.
until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’
44
Basi Daudi amwita Bwana; amekuwaje mwana wake?
Thus David calls Him ‘Lord.’ So how can He be David’s son?”
45
Na watu wote walipokuwa wakimsikiliza, aliwaambia wanafunzi wake,
In the hearing of all the people, Jesus said to His disciples,
46
Jilindeni na waandishi, wapendao kutembea wamevaa mavazi marefu, na kusalimiwa masokoni, na kuketi mbele katika masinagogi, na viti vya mbele karamuni.
“Beware of the scribes. They like to walk around in long robes, and they love the greetings in the marketplaces, the chief seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor at banquets.

Wanakula nyumba za wajane, na kwa unafiki husali sala ndefu. Hao watapata hukumu iliyo kuu.
They defraud widows of their houses, and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will receive greater condemnation.”
