Meaning & Inspiration
“Yote Namtolea Yesu (Yote kwa Yesu)” by Tom Randa is the Swahili form of the hymn “I Surrender All.” The first verse says the singer offers everything to Jesus, gives the whole heart, will love Him always, and follows Him at every hour. The chorus repeats “Yote kwa Yesu,” all to Jesus, and ends with “Natoa sasa,” which means “I give now.”
The second verse adds humility, saying the singer bows before Him and has left pleasures behind, and asks Jesus to receive the singer. The third asks to be made His own, to receive His Spirit and to be kept always. The last verse describes the joy of redemption and praise to His name.
The hymn’s themes are close to Romans 12:1, Luke 9:23 and Galatians 2:20, where giving oneself to Christ is described as a living offering and daily following. The song is gentle and easy for a congregation to sing, and its chorus is built to be repeated.
