Steve Crown - We Wait On You Lyrics

“We Wait on You” by Steve Crown is a short prayer that welcomes the Holy Spirit. The song has two repeated parts. The first says, “Holy Spirit, you are welcome, fill this temple with your presence,” and the second answers with “We wait on you, Lord, we wait on you.” Nothing else is added, so the song stays on invitation and waiting.

The word temple can point to the building where people gather, and it also recalls the biblical idea that believers themselves are a place where the Spirit lives. The waiting is not passive in tone. It is the quiet posture of a congregation that has asked and now expects to receive.

The lyric is close to Acts 1:4-5, where followers are told to wait for the promise of the Father, and to Isaiah 40:31, which says those who wait on the Lord renew their strength. 1 Corinthians 3:16 also speaks of the Spirit dwelling in God’s people. Because it is so repetitive, it works well as a bridge between songs in a service of worship and prayer.
