About Mercy Chinwo
Mercy Nnenda Chinwo was born on September 5, 1990, in Rivers State, Nigeria, and began singing in her church’s children’s choir at age eight. She gained public recognition after winning the second season of the Nigerian Idol competition in 2012. She later graduated from the International Business Management Institute (IBMI) with a degree in human resource management.
In 2015, she released her debut single, “Testimony,” while signed to the gospel record label EeZee Conceptz. She followed with the single “Igwe” in 2016 and the widely received “Excess Love” in 2018. That same year she released her debut album, The Cross: My Gaze. Her subsequent albums include Satisfied (2020), Overwhelming Victory (2024), and In His Will (2025).
Chinwo’s work has earned several honors. In 2019 she won Africa Gospel New Artiste of the Year, Africa Gospel Female Artiste of the Year, and Africa Gospel Song of the Year (for “Excess Love”) at the Africa Gospel Awards Festival. She was named Gospel Artiste of the Year at the AFRIMMA Awards in 2020 and received Africa Gospel Music of the Year at the CLIMA Africa Awards in 2022. In 2025, she won Best Inspirational Single for “You Do This One” at The Headies. She is married to Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa.
