Meaning & Inspiration
“From the Rising” by Mercy Chinwo is a worship song built on Psalm 113:3. The refrain says, “From the rising of the sun to the setting of the same, may your name be praised,” and then adds “Your name alone be praised.” It opens with a wordless vocal that sets the mood before any words are sung.
The verse lifts up the name of Jesus above all names and calls creation to bow in honor, with the singer standing in awe. The second verse states the reason for the praise: there is no argument, God alone is God, and from age to age He remains the same. The singer then offers a personal gift, “my life, my all, I lay it at your feet.”
The themes are close to Psalm 113:3, Philippians 2:9-11 and Hebrews 13:8. Because the song returns to the refrain after each section, it feels like praise that continues from morning to evening, with the name of Jesus at the center.
