Lyrics

Oh, oh, oh...
You love me too much, oh
Oh, oh, oh...

Your love is kind
Your love is patient
You fill my heart
With so much peace and joy
You're amazing
You make my life feel brand new
Jesus you're amazing
You make my life feel brand new

Jesus, You love me too much, oh
Too much, oh
Too much, oh
Excess love, oh
...

Your love is kind
Your love is patient
You fill my heart
With so much peace and joy
You're amazing
You make my life feel brand new
All Your promises are Yea and Amen
You're not a man, You never lie

Jesus, You love me too much, oh
Too much, oh
Too much, oh
Excess love, oh
...

Your love (Your love)
Is amazing (Is amazing)
Your grace (Your grace)
Is amazing (Is amazing)
...
You're amazing (You're amazing)...

Jesus, You love me too much, oh
Too much, oh
Too much, oh
Excess love, oh
...

You're ah, You're amazing
Oh, oh, oh
You make my life feel brand new
...

All Your promises are Yea and Amen
You're not a man, You never lie

Jesus, You love me too much, oh
Too much, oh

Meaning & Inspiration

I keep coming back to that phrase, "Excess love." It’s an odd way to put it, really. When you look at the cross, though, it’s hard to call it anything else. Paul talks about the breadth and length and height and depth of love that surpasses knowledge, and I guess that’s what this song is trying to land on. It’s strange, because when I think of God, I usually think of justice or holiness, but the song just keeps hammering on the kindness and patience of his love. It’s straight out of that famous chapter in Corinthians, isn't it? Love is patient, love is kind. Hearing them sing those words over and over, I started wondering if I even believe that. Do I actually think God is patient with me, or do I just treat him like a judge waiting for me to trip up?

The song shifts into those lines about promises being "Yea and Amen," and it’s like a breath of fresh air. It’s pulled right from the letter to the Corinthians, too—reminding me that he’s not like us, fickle and prone to changing our minds or breaking our word. "You're not a man, You never lie." It feels solid, especially when life feels anything but that. Still, I find myself wrestling with the "excess" part. Can you really have an excess of love? If his love is meant to be the standard, then maybe the only reason it feels excessive is because I’m so stingy with my own. Or maybe I’m just misinterpreting the word. Does "excess" imply it’s more than necessary, or just more than I can contain? It’s a bit jarring to hear such a heavy theological claim tucked into something so repetitive and easy to sing along to, and I’m left wondering if the simplicity of the melody is a trap or just a way to keep the truth from getting too complicated for my own good.
