Frank Edwards - Who Run Things Lyrics
Lyrics
I will testify, I glorify
Amazing things You have done for me
You turned my mourning into dancing
Lord, I thank you oho
You showered me with your blessings
Lord, I thank you oh
There’s none like You
When I call you hear me
You give me plenty, plenty, plenty blessings
Chorus
It’s a brand new something, brand new something
It’s a brand new story, brand a new story
I give you glory, I give you glory
My brother tell who dey run things oh
Nah God oh
Many things He do no be small things oh
With the spirit of God in me
Sister tell who dey run things oh
Nah God ooh oh
Many things He do no be small things oh
I’m singing Hallelujah
halle halle Hallelujah
halle halle Hallelujah
halle halle Hallelujah
I’m singing hallelujah
halle halle Hallelujah
I am what God says I am
Hallelujah
halle halle Hallelujah
halle halle Hallelujah
halle ehn ehn Hallelujah
I’m singing hallelujah
halle halle Hallelujah
I am what God says I am
Verse 2
Tell me how do you feel
When you’re walking in favour
When you’re walking in grace
When you’re balling with Jesus
I see you spreading your wings
You’re fine in favour
You’re basking in grace
Favour is your name
The things you do for me I can not tell it all
Double double everything plenty everything
Come and see for yourself
you do for me I can not tell it all
Double double everything plenty everything
Come and see for yourself
It’s a brand new something, brand new something
It’s a brand new story, brand a new story
I give you glory, I give you glory
My brother tell who dey run things oh
Nah God oh
Many things He do no be small things oh
With the spirit of God in me
Sister tell who dey run things oh
Nah God ooh oh
Many things He do no be small things oh
I’m gonna sing aloud
I will shout aloud
Jesus is alive and He lives in me
I’ll sing aloud
I will shout aloud
Jesus is alive and He lives in me
Oh Oh Oh
I’ve never seen anybody like you precious Daddy
Oh Oh Oh
And you’re the love of my life

Meaning & Inspiration
I’ve been sitting here thinking about this Frank Edwards track from the Overflow album, especially that line about God being the one who runs things. It’s catchy, sure, but it hits on something massive—the sovereignty of God. It brings to mind those verses in the Psalms about God turning our mourning into dancing, which is exactly what he’s singing about. There is a real sense of relief in realizing you aren't the one in control, that there’s a higher authority steering the ship. I find myself wondering if I actually live like that, or if I just sing it when things are going well.
There’s this tension, though, when he starts talking about “double double” blessings and “balling with Jesus.” On one hand, I get the gratitude. We serve a God who provides, and Scripture is clear that every good gift comes from above. But sometimes I worry that we focus so much on the “plenty, plenty” blessings that we lose sight of what it means to actually follow Him. Does God run things when life isn't full of favor? When everything is falling apart? The song is joyful, and there’s a place for that—the Psalmist didn't just write laments, he wrote victory songs too—but I have to be careful not to make the gospel look like a transaction where I give glory and He gives me a “brand new story” full of ease.
Still, hearing him declare “I am what God says I am” feels grounded in identity. That’s what Paul was driving at in Galatians, that our standing comes from the Spirit, not from anything we’ve done. It feels right to anchor your sense of self in that, rather than what the world tells you. I just keep coming back to the question of whether I can hold onto that same conviction on a Tuesday morning when nothing is “double” or “plenty.” Can I still say He runs things then? Maybe that’s the real test of whether the song’s theology actually holds water or if it’s just riding on a high.
