Sarah K - Yupo - Yupo Avunjaye Nira Zote Lyrics

Lyrics

Yupo Yupo, Yupo Yupo

Yupo Yupo, Yupo Yupo

Upo upako wa ajabu humu

Upo utulivu angani

Njoni kwake Yesu ni muweza

Atawatuliza maana Yupo

Yupo Yupo, avunjaye nira zote

Na kubeba mizigo mizito

Yupo Yupo, Kurejesha tumaini

Kuwainua wanyonge

Njooni nyote, mkabidhini mizigo yenyu

Atawabebea maana Yupo

Mbona mwakawia kuja kwake

Neema kuu ipo ya ajabu

Njooni kwake sasa msihofu

Maana Mtamuona Yupo

Yupo Yupo, avunjaye nira zote

Na kubeba mizigo mizito

Yupo Yupo, Kurejesha tumaini

Kuwainua wanyonge

Njooni nyote, mkabidhini mizigo yenyu

Atawabebea maana Yupo

Meaning & Inspiration

I kept listening to Sarah K singing about how He is there, just there, and it kind of hit me how much of my life I spend acting like I have to carry everything on my own. When she sings about the one who breaks every yoke, I can’t help but think about Isaiah 10:27. It’s that idea that the burden doesn't just get lighter; the thing holding you down actually snaps off. It feels like a big promise, maybe even a scary one if you think about what kind of yokes we’re actually carrying. Are we really ready to let them be broken, or have we gotten too used to the weight?

She talks about bringing burdens to Him, which pulls me straight back to that invitation in Matthew 11:28. It’s simple, maybe too simple for how complicated my brain tries to make faith. She’s singing that He’s there to lift up the weak and restore hope, and I find myself wondering if I actually believe that, or if I just like the melody. It’s easy to sing about rest, but the song puts this pressure on the listener to actually come—to move toward Him. It assumes that if you’re still carrying the weight, it’s because you haven't laid it down yet. I’m not sure I love that implication, because sometimes the "coming" feels harder than the carrying. But then again, if He’s really there, like she keeps repeating, then staying away just seems like stubbornness. I guess the real question is whether I truly trust that He’s standing right there waiting, or if I’m just waiting for a feeling to tell me He is.
