Now these are the portions that the Israelites inherited in the land of Canaan, as distributed by Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the families of the tribes of Israel.

Their inheritance was assigned by lot for the nine and a half tribes, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.

Kwa kuwa Musa alikuwa amekwisha kuwapa urithi hizo kabila mbili na nusu, ng'ambo ya pili ya Yordani; lakini hakuwapa Walawi urithi uwao wote kati yao.
For Moses had given the inheritance east of the Jordan to the other two and a half tribes. But he granted no inheritance among them to the Levites.

Kwa kuwa wana wa Yusufu walikuwa kabila mbili, Manase na Efraimu; nao hawakuwapa Walawi sehemu katika hiyo nchi, isipokuwa waliwapa miji wapate kuikaa, pamoja na viunga vyake kwa ajili ya wanyama wao wa mifugo, na kwa ajili ya riziki zao.
The descendants of Joseph became two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. And no portion of the land was given to the Levites, except for cities in which to live, along with pasturelands for their flocks and herds.

Vile vile kama Bwana alivyomwamuru Musa, hao wana wa Israeli walifanya vivyo, nao wakaigawanya hiyo nchi.
So the Israelites did as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they divided the land.

Wakati huo wana wa Yuda walimkaribia Yoshua hapo Gilgali; na Kalebu, mwana wa Yefune, huyo Mkenizi, akamwambia, Wewe wajua hilo neno Bwana alilomwambia Musa, huyo mtu wa Mungu, katika habari zangu, na katika habari zako wewe, tulipokuwa katika Kadesh-barnea.
Then the sons of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh-barnea about you and me.

Mimi nilikuwa mtu wa miaka arobaini umri wangu, hapo Musa mtumishi wa Bwana aliponituma niende kutoka Kadesh-barnea ili kuipeleleza hiyo nchi; nami nilimletea habari tena, kama ilivyokuwa ndani ya moyo wangu.
I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back to him an honest report.

Lakini wale ndugu zangu waliokwea kwenda pamoja nami waliiyeyusha mioyo ya watu; ila mimi nilimfuata Bwana, Mungu wangu, kwa utimilifu.
Although my brothers who went with me made the hearts of the people melt with fear, I remained loyal to the LORD my God.

Kisha Musa akaniapia siku hiyo, akasema, Hakika hiyo nchi ambayo miguu yako imekanyaga itakuwa ni urithi kwako wewe, na kwa watoto wako milele, kwa sababu wewe umemfuata Bwana, Mungu wako, kwa utimilifu.
On that day Moses swore to me, saying, ‘Surely the land on which you have set foot will be an inheritance to you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.’

Sasa basi, angalia, yeye Bwana ameniweka hai, kama alivyosema, miaka hii arobaini na mitano, tangu wakati huo Bwana alipomwambia Musa neno hilo, wakati Israeli waliokuwa wakienenda barani; na sasa tazama, hivi leo nimepata miaka themanini na mitano umri wangu.
Now behold, as the LORD promised, He has kept me alive these forty-five years since He spoke this word to Moses, while Israel wandered in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old,

Hata sasa mimi nina nguvu zangu hivi leo kama nilivyokuwa siku hiyo Musa aliyonituma; kama nguvu zangu zilivyokuwa wakati huo, na nguvu zangu ndivyo zilivyo sasa, kwa vita na kwa kutoka nje na kuingia ndani.
still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out. As my strength was then, so it is now for war, for going out, and for coming in.

Basi sasa unipe mlima huu, ambao Bwana alinena habari zake siku hiyo; kwani wewe ulisikia siku hiyo jinsi Waanaki walivyokuwa huko, na miji ilivyokuwa mikubwa yenye boma; yumkini yeye Bwana atakuwa pamoja nami, nami nitawafukuza watoke nje, kama Bwana alivyonena.
Now therefore give me this hill country that the LORD promised me on that day, for you yourself heard then that the Anakim were there, with great and fortified cities. Perhaps with the LORD’s help I will drive them out, as the LORD has spoken.”

Yoshua akambarikia, akampa Kalebu, huyo mwana wa Yefune, Hebroni kuwa urithi wake.
Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance.

Kwa hiyo Hebroni ukawa urithi wa Kalebu, mwana wa Yefune, Mkenizi, hata leo; kwa sababu alimwandama Bwana, Mungu wa Israeli, kwa utimilifu.
Therefore Hebron belongs to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite as an inheritance to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel.

Basi jina la Hebroni hapo kwanza uliitwa Kiriath-arba; huyo Arba alikuwa ni mtu mkubwa kupita wenziwe wote katika hao Waanaki. Hiyo nchi nayo ikatulia, vita vikakoma. </p>
(Hebron used to be called Kiriath-arba, after Arba, the greatest man among the Anakim.) Then the land had rest from war.
