Meaning & Inspiration

“Wakati” is a prayer for endurance through changing circumstances. The singer trusts that God values prayer, remembers tears, and continues to listen when the wilderness road becomes exhausting. Requests for water in the desert express both physical weariness and spiritual thirst. The song also asks for steadiness when good or difficult times arrive, so that neither condition causes forgetfulness of God.

Its title and the line about a time for every matter clearly echo Ecclesiastes 3:1. The prayer to learn how to count one’s days reflects Psalm 90:12, while the repeated request for water in the wilderness recalls Isaiah 43:19. Together, these passages fit the lyric’s concern with time, dependence, and God’s provision in barren places. The repeated chorus does not pretend that the desert has disappeared; it keeps bringing thirst before God. In that persistence, the song presents trust as continued prayer amid fatigue and change.
