Lyrics
Verse 1
Unirehemu Mungu unirehemu,
Mimi Bwana MUNGU wangu naja,
Maana nafsi yangu imekukimbilia wewe Bwana,
Nafsi yangu ikatikati ya Simba
Wanadamu meno yao ni mikuki na mishale.
Na ndimi zao ni upanga mkali peke yangu mimi siwezi.
Wameweka wavu ili kuninasa.
Nafsi yangu imeinama
Wamechimba shimo mbele yangu, wametumbukia ndani yake.
Chorus
Bwana uniumbie moyo safi
Ili nikutumikie
Bwana uniumbie moyo safi
Ili nikutumikie
Verse 2
Nimekukimbilia wewe Bwana wangu,
Ili nisiaibike milele, kwa haki yako uniponye uniokoe.
Uwe kwangu mwamba wa makazi yangu,
Uwe kwangu baba yangu, niumbie moyo safi
Nakuhitaji
Bwana Yesu maishani mwangu.
Bridge
Niumbie moyo safi, Ili nitembee katika kweli yako
Hii ndo haja ya moyo wangu Bwana unisikie,
Niumbie moyo safi, niko mbele zako Bwana ninakuomba
Chorus
Bwana uniumbie Moyo safi
Bwana uniumbie moyo safi,
Ili nikutumikie
Outro
Walinizunguka, naam walinizunguka, watesi wangu.
Lakini kwa jina la Yesu, naliwakatilia mbali.
Yesu wewe unaweza
Yesu wewe unatosha,
Watumishi wako wote.
Utawalinda na kuwatunza.

Meaning & Inspiration
This Swahili prayer song begins with a plea for mercy and describes a soul that has run to the Lord for refuge. The words about lions, teeth like spears and arrows, tongues like sharp swords and a hidden net closely follow Psalm 57, where David prays while surrounded by enemies.
The chorus then shifts the request from rescue to renewal: "Bwana uniumbie moyo safi," meaning Lord, create a clean heart in me, so that the singer may serve Him. This matches the plea in Psalm 51:10. The second verse asks that the singer never be put to shame and calls God a rock and a father.
The closing section says that enemies have surrounded the singer, yet in the name of Jesus they are cut off. It ends by saying that Jesus is able and sufficient, and that He will guard and care for all of His servants. Fear and danger are named openly, but the song keeps returning to purity of heart and dependence on Christ.
