Meaning & Inspiration
“IBA” by Nathaniel Bassey is a worship song about the limits of words in praise. The verses call God the son of David and the root of Jesse, the rock of ages and King of heaven, and describe Him as eminently glorious and infinitely powerful. The singer says he could go on and on, but his vocabulary fails, so he cries out with the single word “Iba,” a word of reverence.
The bridge looks at creation: God tells the wind how hard to blow and the rain how much to fall, and is clothed in splendor and light with no limit to His power. It says that those who are wise will worship Him. Later the lyric names Him El Shaddai, Adonai, El Gibbor and Elohim.
