NDUM (MY LIFE) / NATHANIEL BASSEY FEAT. M & REVELATION
Meaning & Inspiration
It really hits me when Nathaniel Bassey sings that he belongs to Jesus "hundred percent." It feels simple, but when you actually stop and think about it, that’s everything the New Testament talks about, right? Like Paul saying we aren’t our own because we’ve been bought with a price. It’s a heavy claim to make, especially when life feels messy or when I’m prone to chasing my own things. Claiming that the devil has no stake in my life—that hits on that whole "no condemnation" idea in Romans. It’s bold. Sometimes I wonder if I actually live like I believe the enemy has no power over me, or if I just say it when the music is playing.
Then there’s that part about God being the "spirit that swallows other spirits," or the "king other kings reverence." It’s visceral. It brings me back to the supremacy of Christ over everything in the unseen realm, like in Colossians where it says He’s the head of all rule and authority. It feels like a genuine declaration of sovereignty. Still, I find myself pausing on the idea that my life is His property. If He owns my life, then every struggle or bit of confusion I have is technically under His jurisdiction too. It’s comforting, but it also feels like a massive demand on my own autonomy. Do I really want Him holding the keys to everything I have? If I say "My life belongs to God," I’m basically saying I’m not the one steering anymore, which is both a massive relief and completely terrifying if I’m honest about how much I like control. It makes me question if I’m just singing words or if I’m actually handing over the ownership papers of my daily existence.
