Lyrics
Verse 1
Ni tabibu wa karibu, tabibu wa ajabu
Na neema za daima ni dawa yake njema
Hatufai kuwa hai, wala hatutumai
Ila yeye kweli ndiye atupumzishae
Chorus
Imbeni malaika sifa za Yesu bwana
Pekee limetukuka, jina lake Yesu
Verse 2
Dhambi pia na hatia ametuchukulia
Twenendeni na amani, hata kwake mbinguni
Uliona damu jina la Yesu kristo bwana
Yu na sifa kwenye kufa asiishidwe na kufa
Chorus
Imbeni malaika, sifa za Yesu bwana
Pekee limetukuka jina lake Yesu
Bridge
Kila mume asimame, sifa zake zivume
Wanawake na wasiiche kusifu jina lake

Meaning & Inspiration
Tabibu is a Swahili song that praises Jesus as the healer who is near. The first lines call Him a doctor who is close and wonderful, whose constant grace is the best medicine. The singer says no one deserves to live or hope for anything except that He is the one who gives rest.
The chorus calls on the angels to sing praise to the Lord Jesus, whose name alone is exalted. The next verse thanks Him for taking on sin and guilt and for walking in peace all the way to heaven, mentions the blood of Jesus, and says that He was not defeated by death. The ending calls every man to stand, every woman to keep praising His name, and everyone to sing. The themes follow Isaiah 53:5, Matthew 9:12 and Psalm 103:3. The simple wording and call to praise give the song a thankful, communal tone suited to a choir.
