Meaning & Inspiration
Have Your Way is a prayer built on the language of Psalm 139. The lines "You have searched me" and "You have known me" borrow the psalm's opening, and the reference to days "written in Your book before one of them came to be" echoes verse 16, where the psalmist speaks of days ordained before any existed.
The song then turns from knowledge to surrender. The singer says life is complete in the Lord, that He decides each going out and lying down, and that He is familiar with every way. The refrain "Have Your way in my life" asks for God's will to lead rather than the singer's own plans.
The closing line, "I give it all to You, Lord," keeps the mood simple and personal. The wording is plain and conversational, which suits a congregation or an individual praying through the psalm's themes of being known and held.
