Kwa maana, ndugu zangu, sipendi mkose kufahamu ya kuwa baba zetu walikuwa wote chini ya wingu; wote wakapita kati ya bahari;
Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
wote wakabatizwa wawe wa Musa katika wingu na katika bahari;
and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
wote wakala chakula kile kile cha roho;
and all ate the same spiritual food;
wote wakanywa kinywaji kile kile cha roho; kwa maana waliunywea mwamba wa roho uliowafuata; na mwamba ule ulikuwa ni Kristo.
and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.
Lakini wengi sana katika wao, Mungu hakupendezwa nao; maana waliangamizwa jangwani.
However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
Basi mambo hayo yalikuwa mifano kwetu, kusudi sisi tusiwe watu wa kutamani mabaya, kama wale nao walivyotamani.
Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
Wala msiwe waabudu sanamu, kama wengine wao walivyokuwa; kama ilivyoandikwa, Watu waliketi kula na kunywa, kisha wakasimama wacheze.
Neither be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play."
Wala msifanye uasherati, kama wengine wao walivyofanya, wakaanguka siku moja watu ishirini na tatu elfu.
Neither let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.

Neither let us test the Lord, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.
Wala msinung'unike, kama wengine wao walivyonung'unika, wakaharibiwa na mharabu.
Neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.
Basi mambo hayo yaliwapata wao kwa jinsi ya mifano, yakaandikwa ili kutuonya sisi, tuliofikiliwa na miisho ya zamani.
Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.
Kwa hiyo anayejidhania kuwa amesimama na aangalie asianguke.
Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn't fall.
Jaribu halikuwapata ninyi, isipokuwa lililo kawaida ya wanadamu; ila Mungu ni mwaminifu; ambaye hatawaacha mjaribiwe kupita mwezavyo; lakini pamoja na lile jaribu atafanya na mlango wa kutokea, ili mweze kustahimili.
No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Kwa ajili ya hayo, wapenzi wangu, ikimbieni ibada ya sanamu.
Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
Nasema kama na watu wenye akili; lifikirini ninyi ninenalo.
I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say.
Kikombe kile cha baraka tukibarikicho, je! Si ushirika wa damu ya Kristo? Mkate ule tuumegao, si ushirika wa mwili wa Kristo?
The cup of blessing which we bless, isn't it a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn't it a communion of the body of Christ?
Kwa kuwa mkate ni mmoja, sisi tulio wengi tu mwili mmoja; kwa maana sisi sote twapokea sehemu ya ule mkate mmoja.
Because we, who are many, are one bread, one body; for we all partake of the one bread.
Waangalieni hao Waisraeli walivyokuwa kwa jinsi ya mwili; wale wazilao dhabihu, je! Hawana shirika na madhabahu?
Consider Israel after the flesh. Don't those who eat the sacrifices have communion with the altar?
Basi niseme nini? Ya kwamba kile kilichotolewa sadaka kwa sanamu ni kitu? Au ya kwamba sanamu ni kitu?
What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
Sivyo, lakini vitu vile wavitoavyo sadaka wavitoa kwa mashetani, wala si kwa Mungu; nami sipendi ninyi kushirikiana na mashetani. Hamwezi kunywea kikombe cha Bwana na kikombe cha mashetani.
But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God, and I don't desire that you would have communion with demons.
Hamwezi kushirikiana katika meza ya Bwana na katika meza ya mashetani.
You can't both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can't both partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.
Au twamtia Bwana wivu? Je! Tuna nguvu zaidi ya yeye?
Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
Vitu vyote ni halali; bali si vitu vyote vifaavyo. Vitu vyote ni halali; bali si vitu vyote vijengavyo.
"All things are lawful for me," but not all things are profitable. "All things are lawful for me," but not all things build up.
Mtu asitafute faida yake mwenyewe, bali ya mwenzake.
Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor's good.
Kila kitu kiuzwacho sokoni kuleni, bila kuuliza-uliza, kwa ajili ya dhamiri;
Whatever is sold in the butcher shop, eat, asking no question for the sake of conscience,
maana, Dunia ni mali ya Bwana na vyote viijazavyo.
for "the earth is the Lord's, and its fullness."
Na mtu asiyeamini akiwaalika, nanyi mnataka kwenda, kuleni kila kitu kiwekwacho mbele yenu bila kuuliza-uliza, kwa ajili ya dhamiri.
But if one of those who don't believe invites you to a meal, and you are inclined to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for the sake of conscience.
Lakini mtu akiwaambia, Kitu hiki kimetolewa kiwe sadaka, msile, kwa ajili yake yeye aliyeonyesha, na kwa ajili ya dhamiri.
But if anyone says to you, "This was offered to idols," don't eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For "the earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness."
Nasema, dhamiri, lakini si yako, bali ya yule mwingine. Maana kwa nini uhuru wangu uhukumiwe na dhamiri ya mtu mwingine?
Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other's conscience. For why is my liberty judged by another conscience?
Ikiwa mimi natumia sehemu yangu kwa shukrani, kwa nini nitukanwe, kwa ajili ya kitu nikishukuriacho?
If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for that for which I give thanks?
Basi, mlapo, au mnywapo, au mtendapo neno lo lote, fanyeni yote kwa utukufu wa Mungu.
Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Msiwakoseshe Wayahudi wala Wayunani wala kanisa la Mungu,
Give no occasions for stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the assembly of God;
vile vile kama mimi niwapendezavyo watu wote katika mambo yote, nisitake faida yangu mwenyewe, ila faida yao walio wengi, wapate kuokolewa.
even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.
