Meaning & Inspiration
In “Roho,” Paul Clement addresses the Holy Spirit as a near companion, closer than clothing, and as the source of inner renewal. The opening imagery of rivers flowing within the heart echoes the life-giving presence that Scripture associates with the Spirit, while the tension between gentleness and strength points to a God who is both tender and mighty. The chorus shifts into prayer: a request for teaching, for stability in righteousness, and for daily guidance toward holiness. That movement from declaration to dependence shapes the whole song. The second verse celebrates the Spirit’s victory over darkness through light, and the final verse moves toward trust: with the Spirit within, doubt loses its grip, and courage comes from that presence. The longing to know the Spirit more than yesterday, and to be filled with divine power, frames the Christian life as ongoing transformation rather than a single moment. “Roho” is a worshipful meditation on the Spirit’s person, work, and nearness.
