Meaning & Inspiration
“You Are Good” by Ntokozo Mbambo is a short worship song built on one confession, repeated until it becomes a shared acclamation. The opening sections alternate “Hallelujah” with “You are good,” and the bridge adds “You are good all the time,” a line that works like a call and response.
The long closing section moves from general praise to personal testimony. It repeats “He’s been so good to us,” then names God as a good, good Father, and adds the line “He’s been better to me than I’ve been to myself.” The song then extends the title into names for what God does: a good, good healer and a good, good savior. Each phrase is repeated several times, which leaves room for a congregation to join in.
The theme is close to Psalm 136:1 and Psalm 107:1, which call on people to give thanks because the Lord is good, and to Matthew 7:11, which speaks of the Father giving good gifts. The song is plain, repetitive, and centered on gratitude.
