About Marizu
Marizu (born Marizu Ikechi Atuonwu) is a Nigerian gospel singer-songwriter based in the United Kingdom whose music blends Contemporary Christian Music, Afro gospel, and pop. Born on June 5, 1996, into a musically inclined family, he is the son of veteran gospel singer Buchi Atuonwu. Marizu began performing at age 16 after joining a church choir. He later earned a BA in Illustration & Animation from Coventry University before turning fully to music.
In 2018, he released his debut single, “Chosen,” and signed with the record label HFP Music in 2019. Over the next several years, he built a catalog of worship-focused recordings, including the EPs Chapter 1: Vol. 1 (2020), Chapter 1: Vol. 2 (2020), and Deity (2021). In 2022, he released the album Forever, along with singles “Stay Here,” “Looku Looku,” and “No Greater Love.” His music is driven by his personal relationship with Christ and a desire to glorify God.
Marizu has performed at events such as Rock Fest and concerts hosted by Sinach. His song “Stay Here” earned recognition from UKCC as Top Indie/Folk/Acoustic song of the month for July 2021 and went on to win A STEP FWD’s Best Indie/Folk/Acoustic song of the year in 2021. He was also nominated for African Act of the Year at the 2022 Vine Awards.
