Meaning & Inspiration
Nipe Nguvu is a Swahili prayer for strength and perseverance. The opening addresses God as Father who is good and merciful, Creator of heaven and earth, the beginning and the end, whom the children praise and worship, and thanks Him. The chorus asks Him to hold the singer's hand so as not to fall, says help is needed from Him, and asks for strength and patience to be His.
The verses look at the world's creatures and say that God cares for and loves His people, and the last section kneels before Him asking forgiveness and peace. The themes fit Psalm 73:23-24, Isaiah 41:10, Isaiah 40:29-31 and Psalm 121:2. Simple, repeated lines make it a humble prayer that a congregation can easily join. Its gentle pace and plain wording suit a time of confession and waiting on God.
