Meaning & Inspiration
“The Mercy of the Lord” by Judikay is a short declaration of protection in which each line says that something is speaking or fighting for the singer. The chorus lists the mercy of the Lord, the angels of the Lord, the favour of the Lord and the blood of Jesus Christ. Each statement is repeated, which gives the song a firm, chant-like feel.
The middle of the song focuses on two of those claims. The angels are described as fighting, and the blood of Jesus is described as speaking, and each line is said three times. The phrase “everywhere that I go” then widens the claim to every place the singer travels, before the mercy of the Lord returns as the main refrain, with “it’s speaking for me” repeated.
The imagery is close to Psalm 34:7 on the angel of the Lord, Hebrews 12:24 on the blood that speaks, and Lamentations 3:22-23 on the Lord’s mercies. The song is a confident prayer of trust in God’s covering.
