Meaning & Inspiration
“Yaratwimanye” by Israel Mbonyi is a Kinyarwanda worship song. The title, which the song repeats in its opening, speaks of God having kept or held His people. The lyrics are in Kinyarwanda, and the verses speak of a person by a river like a tree, a heart that is glad, and joyful news, though the transcription of the words is uneven.
The imagery of one planted by water is close to Psalm 1:3 and Jeremiah 17:8. The verses also mention days that follow one another, songs of those who were set free, and a morning that draws near. The chorus repeats lines about the sound of birds and waiting for the morning, with a feel close to Psalm 30:5, where joy comes in the morning.
In the later part, the song calls out “Yesu” and repeats a line about thousands of times, then returns to the title again and again. The song reads as a thanksgiving.
