Meaning & Inspiration
“Tugumane” by Israel Mbonyi is a Kinyarwanda song written as a prayer, and the title means “let us stay together.” The first verse faces problems that will not end and rivers that cannot be crossed, and says not every plea is answered, but the singer has the Redeemer and asks to be shown His plans so as to see Him.
The chorus asks God to remember the singer who has tried to please Him, to watch over the generations and to let His kindness follow to the end. The singer then prays for blessing on those he loves, on enemies, that they may know God, and on co-workers. The bridge asks God the Savior to be present in trouble and answer, in wealth and poverty, in success and failure.
The themes are close to Psalm 23:6, Matthew 5:44 and Psalm 139:7-10, on goodness that follows, praying for enemies and God’s presence everywhere.
