Essence of Worship - Umetenda Lyrics
Lyrics
Tunakutolea dhabihu na sifa
Mioyo ya shukurani
Tunasogea mbele zako kwa kukushukuru
Umefanya mengi Bwana
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Umetenda mengi Bwana
Moyo wangu wakusifu X2
Kwa yale umefanya
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Kwa yale umetenda
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Umetenda mengi Bwana
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Umetenda mengi Bwana
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Kwa yale umefanya
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Kwa yale umetenda
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Umetenda mengi Bwana
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Umetenda mengi Bwana
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Nimekutumaini Bwana
Nimeona mkono wako
Nimekutegemea wewe
Nimeona wema wako
Umeitimiza ahadi yako
Umelitunza neno lako
Nakushukuru Bwana
Nakushukuru wewe
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Kwa yale umefanya
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Kwa yale umetenda
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Umefanya mengi Bwana
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Umetenda mengi Bwana
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Kwa yale umefanya
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Kwa yale umetenda
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Umefanya mengi Bwana
Moyo wangu wakusifu
Umetenda mengi Bwana
Moyo wangu wakusifu

Meaning & Inspiration
I’ve been listening to this, and it’s one of those tracks that keeps pulling me back to how we talk about God’s faithfulness. When the group sings about seeing His hand at work and experiencing His goodness, it sounds exactly like what the psalmist was getting at when he said to taste and see that the Lord is good. There’s a weight to the way they repeat that He’s done so much. It isn't just a casual statement; it’s an active acknowledgment of a history with God. I started thinking about the part where they mention He has kept His word and fulfilled His promises. That’s a heavy claim, right? It makes me think of all those times in the prophets where God keeps going back to His covenant even when everyone else has walked away. It’s comforting, but it also makes me wonder if I really look for those footprints in my own life as clearly as they’re describing here.
Are we actually seeing His promises fulfilled, or are we just singing about it because it sounds right? The lyrics move from just offering a sacrifice of praise—which feels very connected to Hebrews—into this personal witness of seeing His hand. It’s intimate. But then I have to stop and ask myself, if the things I’m hoping for don’t look like “done deals” yet, is my heart still capable of that kind of praise? Sometimes I worry that we make God’s character dependent on what He’s done for us lately, but this feels a bit more grounded in the idea that He is who He says He is. Even so, I’m left sitting with the tension of whether my own trust is actually built on His word alone, or if I’m just waiting for the next thing He’ll do to prove He’s still listening.
